Hosted by clinical psychologist Dr. Erika Velez, The Mindful Corner is a series of candid conversations with everyday individuals from all walks of life–single parents, college students, career professionals, roaming travelers, and more–who share stories in the hopes that we can earn from each other and, simultaneously, grow together. Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart, pediatric psychologist and parent coach, comes on to share her personal story of being Black in America. After moving to the United States from St. Croix for college, Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart shares her experience with microaggressions and racism.  She shares valuable suggestions for parents who seek to raise race conscious children and for those seeking a path to allyship.

Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart is a pediatric psychologist, parent coach, and the business owner of A New Day Pediatric Psychology in San Antonio, Texas. She was born and raised on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. She has lived in Buffalo (NY), Indiana, Ohio, California, Arizona, and now Texas. She has lived and experienced a wide variety of cultural and geographic perspectives within the United States and in the Caribbean. She has a doctorate in clinical psychology and is board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. She has been married for 21 years and has two children, ages 10 and 7.
